Research For LOGAN

The film I am going to research about is Logan, Logan is a an upcoming film directed by James Mangold that stars Hugh Jackman. Logan is a film about Wolverine who is a fictional marvel character communally known as Logan. Wolverine gained mass population in the first X-men in 2000 and then Hugh Jackman got his own spin off movie which he plays well in.
Logan is an action pact superhero movie which was was released in March 2017 the downside of releasing this movie in March was that month saw Power angers, Kong: Skull Island which are both action movies which puts Logan in competition. Beauty and the Beast was also released that same month and received more money from the box office. However Logan has a really high expectation. Its a type of film that many people especially teens are wanting to see. In total the ten X-MEN films have made a box office of nearly $5 billion.  The budget for Logan was $97 million. Wolverine has always been a popular superhero character in the Marvel world it is so popular that  any film featuring Wolverine is going to be a hit but having a massive audience means that the content has to be up to normal standards. Super hero films are very very popular especially with teens from all over the globe. After doing research on this film I have found reviews of this being the last wolverine film that Hugh Jackman is staring in. Hugh Jackman is a Australian born actor, singer and producer. Not only is he the star of the wolverine and x-men films he as also had lead roles in films such as Kate and the Leopold, Van Helsing, Les Miserables and Prisoners. The general audience would be mainly males over the age of 16, the typical audience member who would watch Logan would also watch films like John Wick, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, King kong and other action films as well as super hero films. Logan was the the fourth highest grossing film of 2017.

Films that could be competing with Logan are Baywatch
The original Baywatch that stared David Hasselhoff in 1989 was an American action drama series about Los Angeles County Lifeguards who patrol the beaches of LA county after 11 seasons and 242 episodes the TV show final stopped in 2001.  Now in 2017 a film is being made staring the Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson who was the highest paid actor in 2016. The storyline of the 2017 film is ''Devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.'' The film has yet to have any reviews as it is not showing yet.

Rangers: Once a very popular cartoon show which was also one of my favorite cartoons has not turned into a movie. The movie distributed by Lionsgate Films had a budget of $100 million. This is the third installment of films from the Power rangers film franchise. This is competing with Logan as they are both the same genre and both came out in the same month.

Another film that competes with Logan would be Kong: Skull Island staring Tom Hiddleston with a budget of 185 million dollars the film gained 564 million in the Box Office. King Kong was a very popular film so making the new spin off would already have a big fan base as well as high expectations.

This is my secondary research for logan. This is a very popular chilling review about the logan film.

This is my primary research of which I asked questions on survey monkey. The question I asked was ;Would you watch Logan again?, Dif you enjoy the film? Would you like to watch logan? And have you seen logan?

Task two

Audience research for Logan. Majority of people would watch this film at the cinema but other times people would watch this movie on DVD, streaming services such as Netflix, amazon prime if it were ever put onto them services.
Throughout the years I believe the target audience has stayed the same which would be mainly males over the age of 15 the only thing that has changed is that how 15 year old are now compared to how they were 10 years ago. For film and TV teenagers are the biggest sectors in the industry. So any movie that is aimed at teenagers as high expectation as well as a very big audience. Its important that research is carried out for the audience so that the costumers get the product that they want. Also the company will know who is more likely to use their product once the company has figured out who will use theirs products then they can make advertisements aimed at them as well as create the ideal product for them. For example for the film Logan teenagers would be wanting to see action, drama scenes such as fighting, explosions ect, so when the film developers make trailers they show action and drama to make the person whose watching the trailer want to go and watch the film. The prices of cinema tickets are rising and rising so majority of the Films are streamed illegally or on Netflix. Cinemas cost £8 per movie and Netflix cost £6 a month for loads of movies and TV shows, its a no brainer.

Logan is a film with mass resources and budgets the makers of the film already know that the movie will make a massive box office result even if the content is bad, meaning they can spend loads and loads of money to produce this film. The prices to make big movies like the are huge that's why its getting more and more expensive to watch a movie. It would be a movie makers dream for everyone in the world to pay and watch their movie in the cinema which means that movie makers have to produce new content that's creative and stands out from the rest. The best way to get your film up there is to get really well known actors to star in your film and also get major directors to direct the film. For example Avatar 2009 is one of the biggest films directed by James Cameron with this being such a great film it means that avatar 2 has really high expectation's. Logan will be distributed in the cinemas and I think it will smash the box office as it already has a wide audience from its films.

Production research one of scenes from Logan is filmed at the Nasa Michoud Plant in New Orleans. Apparently they chose this location as it is a popular plave for a film location.  Other locations that were filmed for Logan were ; New Mexico, Mississippi, Sicilly Island and Louisiana. According to the New Mexico film offices the production had employed 130 New Mexico crew members and also 600 extras which will have cost a bomb. The talent of Hugh Jackman is amazing hes played the part of Wolverine for some time he knows how to act like a werewolf. The film got a box office of $607.3million and had a budget to spend of $97million. The running time lasted 137 minutes. The competitions for this film have already been talked about above.

Summarised I have summarised that Logan is going to be a big hit even if the content it rubbish the audience in the Marvel world is probably one of the biggest this could be due to the fact that the biggest sector of films is down to teenagers and most if not all teenagers love super hero movies.

Developing technology

Technology has now advanced the population to be able to watch films and TV on our phones and tablets. Another use of technology is online steaming TV shows and films. 4K streaming and 4k TVs

Broadcasters like Sky have upped their technology game by making sky movies which is an online movie rental service which rivals with netflix, amazon prime and hulu.
Netflix is an online streaming service costing a minimum amount of £5.99 per month consumers can watch many different films and TV shows, Netflix is widely known for its own TV productions such as Stranger Things, Luke Cage and Narcos. Netflix also sends DVD's by mail as well as offering on demand. Netflix has over 93 million user who watch more than 125 million hours of films and TV shows a day. Netflix is changing the revolution of films possibly in the next 10 years cinemas will be on the verge of instinct simply because of how cheap online steaming is. Netflix and Amazon are now making their own productions

Developing film production technology like green screens and CGI are becoming more easy

Satellite TV is a television programming system that is wirelessly connected to TV sets. TV satellite is set across the world using a network of radio signals, broadcast centres, and outdoor antennas. The way it works is that satellites in the sky send signals to satellite dishes on earth. This was probably the most common way of watching TV. The companies that use this are Sky, Freeview, Freesat and Virgin media.

Film, the development of film has advanced massively recently with things such as green screen, 3D printing, CGI and VFX.  There are many examples of films using green screen, green screen allows the background to change into whatever has been put into the computer. Green screen does change the entire picture of s scene. Green screen is a new development  of TV production that has become huge simply because its easy and costs a lot less.  Nowadays it is extremely rare to see a Hollywood film that hasn't used green screen.  CGI is also a massive advanced improvement for TV and Film computerizing stuff that never actually happened but make it look like it has happened is a good feature for films and TV to make it more cool.

High definition is becoming more and more cheap and accessible blue ray discs are a little more expensive than normal cds, the cheapest blue ray players are around £25 compared to about 10 years ago when they were about £100 the first blue ray device was the BDZ-S77 in 2003 which cost $3,800. Blue ray is also accessible on some gaming consoles.

4K ultra HD is currently the highest resolution on TVs meaning 4000 mega pixels per inch, in the past high definition used to be 1080p and 4k is the new update, But not every company has caught up with the 4k systems although YouTube and Netflix both support 4k playback.

Task two

The British Broadcasting Corporation is revolutionary for England's entertainment Britain's first live broadcast took place in the Marconi factory in Chelmsford in 1920. Sponsored by the Daily Mails Lord Northcliffe which featured Dame Nellie Melba who at the time was famous.
The 1930's was the birth of TV this was a big decade that changed a lot of things, in 1932 BBC radio bought a brand new broadcasting house, and it 1936 it was the first broadcaster that started a scheduled TV service. In the 1930's microphones were quite expensive that made BBC work with Marconi to make their own microphone model and they named it 'Type A' which has been refined over the years and has become the classic BBC microphone which can be seen in BBC's productions.  The first foreign language broadcaster was in Arabic who was named Ahmad Kamal Sourour Effendi who was recruited from the Egyptian radio service. A big thing that BBC made is the red button which is branding used for interactive television services that are provided by the BBC, and broadcast in the UK.

BBC Iplayer is a development brought to us by BBC where you can watch BBC production online you can now also get apps for BBC iplayer. BBC iplayer. It is very usefull if you miss a weekly TV show like Eastenders because if you miss it on the air then you can just stream it on BBC iplayer. BBC Iplayer was first aired on 25th of December in 2007. BBC iplayer produces BBC ONE and BBC TWO, Three, Radio 1, Cbeebies, BBC news, box sets and movies.
BBC also devolped the quality of playback of their productions of HD broadcasting using the highest quality of definition BBC allow their consumers to watch their products in the best possible way. In 2012 BBC launched digital Olympics which allows you to watch everything in the games where you can watch any performance and allows you to get information of what is happening. It allows you to collect information about the sport people this is something that the BBC produced for the customer that enjoyed the British Olympics. BBC also produced something called super high vision for the Olympics at the time there was only three SHV camera around and one of them was used for the British Olympics. These types of camera are very expensive and designed and made in NHK science labs. Another development from BBC is 3d tennis. Which allows anyone at home with a 3D telly to watch Wimbledon in 3D this makes the viewer feel more in the game and gives the same enhancement as 3D movies.
BBC have also made BBC bitsize which is an online server to help youths with their academic work, it is free to study and is designed for all students for both school work and older students in exams.

BBC-Microphone

Now the BBC has over 20,000 people working for them BBC gets most of the money for the government to produce content for the public so they will never run out of money.  BBC earns billions of pounds a year from TV licences, selling their programs to other broadcasting companies.
